A focused 20-day immersive residency for emerging, self-taught and established artists who want to understand Conceptual Art, develop strong artistic ideas, explore contemporary approaches and transform research and experiences into meaningful artworks.

THE 20-DAY JOURNEY

DAYS 1–2 | INTRODUCTION TO CONCEPTUAL ART

Understand what Conceptual Art is and how it developed. Explore idea, thought, context and meaning as the foundation of an artwork. Study different conceptual approaches, contemporary practices, artist-led research and the relationship between idea and form.

DAYS 3–4 | BHUBANESWAR: THE CITY AS RESEARCH

Explore temples, architecture, Udayagiri–Khandagiri Caves, museums, art/craft spaces and local culture. Observe history, religion, identity, traditions, symbols, social life, architecture and change as potential subjects for artistic inquiry.

DAYS 5–7 | RESEARCH & IDEA DEVELOPMENT

Learn how to transform observation into an artistic question. Develop research methods, identify subjects and themes, collect references and investigate personal, cultural and social contexts. Develop a concept, question or proposition for your work.

DAYS 8–12 | EXPERIMENTATION & CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Translate ideas into artistic possibilities through installation, objects, photography, text, drawing, video, performance, found materials, documentation and mixed media. Experiment with different forms and ask: Does the medium strengthen the idea?

DAYS 13–16 | DEVELOP & REFINE YOUR PROJECT

Intensive individual mentorship and group critiques. Test assumptions, strengthen the concept, refine research, develop the final form and build a coherent conceptual project. Learn how to communicate complex ideas clearly without over-explaining them.

DAYS 17–18 | PROFESSIONAL CONCEPTUAL ART PRACTICE

Learn how to prepare a concept note, artist statement, project proposal and portfolio. Understand documentation, exhibition proposals, curatorial presentation, galleries, residencies and approaching institutions. Final review of the project and artistic direction.

DAYS 19–20 | RELAX • SHOP • EXPERIENCE

After an intensive creative and research journey, enjoy relaxed personal time, local experiences and shopping for Odisha handicrafts, textiles, traditional art and cultural products, followed by a farewell gathering.
